Getting Started with Weight Training at Ignite Health Club

No matter your age, fitness experience, or goals, incorporating weight training into your routine can be incredibly beneficial for your health and well-being.

At first, lifting weights may feel intimidating, but don’t worry—that feeling is completely normal. This guide will help you understand the fundamentals of weight training so you can feel more confident when stepping into the gym.

Why Weight Training?

Weight training offers a range of benefits, from improving strength and muscle tone to enhancing mood and reducing anxiety. It doesn’t just help in the gym—it also improves everyday functional movements. The Australian Department of Health recommends at least two muscle-strengthening activities per week, making weight training a great way to meet this guideline.

How to Get Started with Weight Training

Step One: Familiarise Yourself with the Gym

Understanding where everything is can help you feel more comfortable. Ignite Health Club features:

  • Fixed-resistance machines – Ideal for beginners, these machines guide your movement.
  • Free weights area – Includes dumbbells, barbells, kettlebells, and benches for more flexibility in training.
  • Functional training area – Great for bodyweight exercises, battle ropes, sled pushes, and more.

If you'd like a guided tour, book an induction with one of our trainers—they’ll show you around and answer any questions you may have.(Please consult your doctor before starting any new exercise routine if you have any medical conditions or injuries.)Step Two: Set Your GoalsHaving a clear goal will help shape your workouts. Ask yourself:

  • Do you want to build muscle?
  • Are you aiming for overall strength and endurance?
  • Do you want to improve functional strength for daily activities?

Write down your goals to help you stay focused and track progress.Step Three: Choose Your Training ApproachThere’s no one-size-fits-all approach, but here are a few ways to get started:

  • Hire a personal trainer – Our expert trainers at Ignite can help you develop a personalised strength program and teach you proper techniques.
  • Try our strength programs – Check out our app for structured training plans with step-by-step guides and exercise demos.
  • Join a strength class – We offer classes incorporating weights, such as kettlebell and circuit training, to help you gain confidence and strength in a group setting.
  • Explore our exercise library – Learn proper form and technique with our instructional videos and guides.

Step Four: Train Smart

  • Warm up before workouts to prevent injuries.
  • Focus on technique first—quality over quantity is key.
  • Take rest days to allow your muscles to recover and grow.
  • Ask for help—our staff and trainers are always here to assist you.

Build Confidence & Strength at Ignite Health ClubStarting something new can be daunting, but with practice, you’ll improve and see results. Over time, weight training will become second nature, helping you build strength, confidence, and overall well-being.Ready to begin your weight training journey? Amazing gym.All equipment you can think of. Everything so clean.Brian is a legend, so welcoming and nice.Ignite is the only gym Albury needs really.I could not recommend more this place. Even the music was nice!If I lived in Albury that’s definitely where I would work out.👍🏽🤩💪🏽
Best place for workout ... everything sorted for beginners how to start and staff is amazing, friendly and helpful all time..bonus point is creche which is good for mum and dad..💯
Great vibe, great staff, there's probably two of every machine you can think of, and the music they play is actually tailored to gym workouts so it's no issue if you forget your headphones.
Awesome gym, they have lots of equipment (and lots of doubles of things, so you're not waiting forever to do leg presses or chest presses for example), and the staff are all really friendly. Definitely one of the things I'll miss most about the town when I leave.
Hands down an amazing gym, I can’t find a better crew anywhere in Victoria/NSW. surrounded by quality people. A gym I would recommend to aliens if they came to earth. Appreciate them highly.

This place is a lot larger than I expected for a country town. They have the the equipment and machines that I needed. I did expect that at 6am I would be the only person there or at least one of a couple of people but it was quite busy.

Favourite gym in albury/wodonga!
Had a great sale on and my wife and I joined up. The staff are friendly and I'm impressed with the amount of equipment and the quality. The gym has a friendly welcoming vibe.As an added bonus they also have a mini cafe with coffee, tea and protein smoothies and as far as I know they are the only gym in our area who have this.
